I have been pretty busy the last couple of weeks .
Week 5
I am continuing to the day to day logistical things that are expected in the library. I help with checking in and out books for students. I reshelve books and help teachers get the classroom set of certain books they want. I think that my favorite thing so far is helping the students use mulitmedia and research good webistes for them to use. It amazes me how wuick they learn to use multimedia programs. For example, they are able to great things with power point. They get all the transition and graphics that they can add. They have even taught me a few things! What I try to get them to do is to slow down and not to rush to get it down "quicker". A lot of times they barely want just to meet what their rubric says. I have shown many how to hyperlink a website into their power point. Most are really receptive. Most of the students that I work with come before or after school, so they do value their education more than some.
· CEBS Dispositions:
Professionalism. I am constantly growing as a teacher and in this enty I learned that I can even learn from my students! They were able to do things on the computer that I couldn't. It was quite humbling. I am proud that they are able to take the iniative and showing how to teach me
Week 6
I am also working with my students in the classroom on how to look up good webiste that they can trust. They always just look at the first one the seach engine pops up and they use that one. I show them the difference between a .com and a .edu website and to understand the differences.
I am also particapating in our ourline book club. We are still reading The Color Purple by Alice Walker. I am amazed at the insight that our readers have and the questions that they come up with. It really is nice because we don't have to rely on after school hours for all to particapate This pertains to the CEBS Disposition of working with a diverse population
. · CEBS Dispositions:
Diversity. I teach special education and I have a very diverse population. I am always thinking of ways to hit every students needs based on their sex, ethnic or cultural backgroud so that they can get the most out of the lesson.
Week 7
Our library is now on Twitter for those who wish to follow. What a great way to get information out there to students, parents and teachers. I also went to a Sept. 22, Jacqueline Woodson, an award winning author of children's and young adult books, session for teachers from 5-6 at Bellarmine University, Allen Hall, Room 460B. We have not had an author come to our school yet, but we are trying to get at least 1 or 2. This pertains to the CEBS disposition of participating with professional activities.
· CEBS Dispositions: Professional development and involvement. References and makes use of professional organizations or publications. Willingly participates in professional activities or events that promote professional development.
